Tiger Woods is set to design a new nine-hole short course at Augusta Municipal Golf Course, known locally as "The Patch", in partnership with Augusta National Golf Club.

The five-time Masters champion will also establish a TGR Foundation Learning Lab in Augusta as part of the initiative announced on Monday.

The project aims to provide affordable golf access and educational opportunities for the local community.

This collaboration will significantly expand Woods' legacy in Augusta beyond his playing achievements at the Masters Tournament.

Augusta National Chairman Fred Ridley made the announcement at the start of Masters week, revealing the partnership with Woods.

"We also recognize the importance of deepening Tiger's legacy in Augusta and with the Masters," Ridley said.

Woods, who is currently rehabilitating from Achilles surgery, shared his enthusiasm in a statement.

"Partnering with Augusta National Golf Club to serve its surrounding community is truly special. My passion for education and golf dates back a long time, as does my relationship with Augusta," Woods said.

"This is a transformational opportunity to empower the next generation."

The par-3 course will be known as the "Loop at the Patch" in honour of Augusta National caddies who historically gathered there to play golf.

The name acknowledges that these caddies did not have access to play at the exclusive Augusta National club.

The municipal course, which opened in 1928, is undergoing extensive renovations overseen by architects Tom Fazio and Beau Welling.

The Patch closed in December for a planned 15-month rebuild and will feature a new clubhouse, driving range and short-game area when completed.

Short courses have become a significant part of Woods' design portfolio, with similar projects at Bluejack National and Pebble Beach.

"I know that this whole concept of a short course is something that's near and dear to Tiger's heart," Ridley noted.

The TGR Foundation Learning Lab in Augusta will be the organisation's fourth, alongside facilities in Anaheim, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia.

Scheduled to open in 2028, it will occupy a former elementary school site and serve public school students in Richmond County and surrounding districts.

The renovated Augusta Municipal Golf Course is scheduled to reopen in April 2026 following the extensive work.

The former 5,900-yard facility will be extended by approximately 900 yards from the back tees.

Augusta National has committed to maintaining affordability at the public course.

"I can promise you that the word 'affordability' will continue to be the watchword," Ridley emphasised.

"We realised that this is an asset for the community and everyone in the community."

Woods' involvement comes as he remains sidelined from competition due to his recent Achilles injury.
