Shadow Transport Secretary Helen Whately has called on Labour to reaffirm its support for Israel following the government's decision to suspend some arms export licences.
The move, announced by Foreign Secretary David Lammy, has drawn criticism from both sides of the political spectrum.
Whately expressed concern over the timing of the announcement, which came shortly after Hamas murdered six Israeli hostages.
Lammy told Parliament on Monday that the government had suspended 30 out of 350 arms export licences to Israel. He stated it was "with regret" that he concluded there was "a clear risk" certain arms exports "might be used to commit or facilitate a serious violation of international humanitarian law".
Speaking on GB News, Whately said: "I think it's really important that we stand firm in our support of Israel in their conflict with Hamas, which, of course, is a terrorist organisation."
She acknowledged concerns about the humanitarian situation in Gaza but noted: "Hamas is using people as human shields and still has Israeli hostages."
