Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are currently facing off in the first televised presidential debate between the pair as the race for the White House heats up.

In the fiery debate, Donald Trump has hit back at Kamala Harris accusing her of "lying" when questioned about abortion rights.

Highlighting the need to reinstate Roe v. Wade, Harris hailed the Democratic record on abortion rights and said "Donald Trump should not be telling women what to do with their body".

She added that "if Donald Trump is elected he will sign a national abortion ban".

Trump hit back at Harris, saying it was a "lie".

Tonight, Trump will seek to pin several of Biden's failings on his Democratic rival including illegal immigration at America’s southern border and the high cost of living as the US economy continues its recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Harris's strategy on the other hand will reflect on Trump's previous tenure in office and his history of dishonesty and dysfunction which led to the Capitol riots on January 6, 2021.

Donald Trump: 'I took a bullet to the head because of what [Kamala Harris] said about me'

Donald Trump

Donald Trump has claimed he "took a bullet to the head" over comments made by Kamala Harris.

Speaking on the weaponization of the Department of Justice, Kamala Harris said: "Well, let's talk about extreme and understand the context in which this election in 2024 is taking place.

"The United States Supreme Court recently ruled that the former President would essentially be immune from any misconduct if he were to enter the white House again.

"Understand this is someone who has openly said he would terminate, I'm quoting, terminate the Constitution of the United States, that he would weaponize the Department of Justice against his political enemies.

"Someone who has openly expressed disdain for members of our military.

"Understand what it would mean if Donald Trump were back in the white House with no guardrails, because certainly we know now the court won't stop him.

"We know JD Vance is not going to stop him. It's up to the American people."

Trump interjected: "[Kamala] is the one that weaponized, not me. She weaponized.

"I probably took a bullet to the head because of the things that they say about me. They talk about democracy.

"I'm a threat to democracy. They're the threat to democracy with a fake Russia, Russia, Russia investigation."

Former Margaret Thatcher aide brands Kamala Harris 'far Left threat to future of US'

My former boss Margaret Thatcher would have viewed Kamala Harris as an unprincipled open borders socialist politician, a far Left threat to the future of the United States.

The Iron Lady would have warned the American people against Harris’s incredibly dangerous agenda.

He said: "What they [Biden and Harris] have done to our country by allowing these millions and millions of people to come into our country and look at what's happening to the towns all over the United States.

"And a lot of towns don't want to talk. Not going to be Aurora or Springfield. A lot of towns don't want to talk about it because they're so embarrassed by it.

"In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats.

"They're eating, they're eating the pets of the people that live there. And this is what's happening in our country."

ABC's debate moderator jumped into to say: "Just want to clarify here. You bring up Springfield, Ohio, and ABC news did reach out to the city manager there.

"He told us there have been no credible reports of specific claims of pets being harmed, injured or abused by individuals within the immigrant community."

"She's a Marxist. Everybody knows she's a Marxist. Her father is a Marxist professor in economics, and he taught her well.

"But when you look at what she's done to our country, and when you look at these millions and millions of people that are pouring into our country monthly, where it's, I believe, 21 million people, not the 15 that people say, and I think it's a lot higher than the 21 that's bigger than New York State pouring in.

"And just look at what they're doing to our country. They're criminals. Many of these people coming in are criminals, and that's bad for our economy."

Presidential debates do not necessarily change voters' minds, but they can transform the dynamics of a race.
