Polls are starting to close across the US as Americans decide their next President.

In parts of the states of Kentucky and Indiana, polls have now shut - with state-wide closures results expected from midnight GMT.

Just minutes ago, the country's exit poll was revealed - but unlike in Britain, this doesn't give a hint as to what the result could be ahead of time.

Americans are asked what their top issues are, not who they've voted for.

They've listed their top five priorities as: the state of democracy, the economy, abortion, immigration and foreign policy.

Around a third of respondents chose the first two, with abortion and immigration at 14 and 11 per cent respectively.

The poll also found that almost three quarters of voters believed democracy was in jeopardy - compared to just 25 per cent who said it was secure.

Elon Musk orders 'emergency squad' to Pennsylvania to firm last-minute votes

Elon Musk

Elon Musk is said to have sent an "emergency team" to Pennsylvania to help secure crucial final votes as the election reaches its climax.

Musk's campaign group, the America PAC, is focusing on potential Trump voters whose initial ballots contained errors - which would lead to their rejection in the final tally.

The approach is costly and uncommon, but it could provide the few additional votes needed to win this pivotal state.

Farage feeling 'bullish' as Trump counts down to exit poll

Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has said he is feeling "bullish" about Donald Trump's chances as the ex-President counts down to the first set of exit polls.

Farage, who shared his thoughts en route to Mar-a-Lago, also argued it was strange exit polls come out when voters still head to polling stations.

Lara Trump and Donald Trump

Lara Trump has issued a warning to voters to “protect the vote” ahead of the US Presidential election.

Sharing a link to voter fraud, the daughter-in-law of Donald Trump told her 1.8million followers to follow the link if they see anything deceitful.

With voting now underway, both Trump and Kamala Harris are tied neck and neck in seven key states in one of the tightest elections ever.

Trump urges Republicans to 'stay in line' as clock ticks on polls across the US

Donald Trump has been urging his followers to stay in lines outside American polling stations as closing time inches closer.

After pledging that today is "our last chance to defeat the corrupt establishment", the Republican hopeful has told his would-be voters not to be "intimidated" by election officials.

"If you're there before the official close of polls, don't let anyone intimidate you or force you out of line. Stay in line!"

Swing states: Where might tonight be won and lost?

Swing states map

Seven key states hang in the balance tonight - and after months of campaigning, data and surveys, pollsters remain unsure just which way they'll swing.

Here's the run-down on how much sway these states could hold - and when Britons can expect to find out who they've chosen.

A reminder that either of the two hopefuls need 270 Electoral College (EC) votes to win the presidency.

  • Georgia (16 EC votes) polls close at 7pm - 11pm GMT
  • Michigan (15 EC votes) polls close at 8pm - 12am GMT
  • Nevada (6 EC votes) polls close at 10pm - 2am GMT
  • North Carolina (16 EC votes) polls close at 7.30pm - 11.30pm GMT
  • Pennsylvania (19 EC votes) polls close at 8pm - 12am GMT
  • Wisconsin (10 EC votes) polls close at 9pm - 1am
  • Arizona (11 EC votes) polls close at 9pm - 1am GMT

Officials in Arizona have warned it could take up to 13 days to tabulate all the ballots in Maricopa County - which is home to over half of Arizona's population.

Georgia polling stations receive election day bomb threats linked to 'Russian sources'

Georgia's Secretary of State has reported that polling centres received bomb threats on election day - which have been pinned on "Russian sources".

Two polling sites, in the Peach State's Union City and Fulton County, were temporarily evacuated on Tuesday as a precautionary measure.

Secretary Brad Raffensperger said that while officials were still investigating, they did not believe the threats were credible.

"We've received some threats with connections to Russia," Raffensperger said in a press conference on Tuesday morning.

"While we don't think they're credible, we're prioritizing public safety and thoroughly investigating."
