Tiger Woods has suffered another devastating setback to his career after revealing he has ruptured his Achilles tendon.
The 15-time major winner underwent surgery on Tuesday for the injury and looks set to miss a significant amount of golf.
This latest health blow has dashed any hopes of Woods making his anticipated comeback at The Masters next month.
The 49-year-old had been expected to return to competitive golf at Augusta National, where he has claimed victory five times throughout his illustrious career.
Woods has not played an official competitive round since last July while The Masters is set to begin on 10 April.
Dr. Charlton Stucken of Hospital for Special Surgery in West Palm Beach, Florida performed the procedure on Tuesday morning.
Woods underwent a "minimally-invasive Achilles tendon repair for a ruptured tendon", according to his statement.
The surgery appears to have gone well, with Dr. Stucken confirming: "The surgery went smoothly, and we expect a full recovery."
This will come as some relief to fans of the golf legend, though no timeline for his return to competitive action has been provided.
Woods explained how the injury occurred as he was preparing for his return to golf.

The PGA Tour icon is now focused on his rehabilitation.
"I am back home now and plan to focus on my recovery and rehab, thank you for all the support," Woods added.
This latest setback comes at a frustrating time for the 82-time PGA Tour winner who had been working towards his competitive comeback.
