A 100-year-old D-Day veteran has been suspended from the Green Party over comments he made about trans women in a private Facebook group.

Eric Walker, who has been a member of the party for 50 years, received the disciplinary action after posting his views about different types of trans women.

The suspension came as Walker celebrated his 100th birthday, and he outlined what he believed were five distinct categories of trans women in his Facebook post to a private group for older Green Party members.

In his comments, he described some trans women as individuals who genuinely believe they are in the wrong body.

Speaking to GB News, Walker said: "There's a small group in the Green Party at the top. The nice people at the bottom mostly don't know anything about it.

"There are various disputes in the Green Party, as in other parties, for instance, about HS2. We've got divided opinion, divided opinion about joining Nato and divided opinion on this issue of trans people.

"That is where the trouble starts, because the there's a certain amount of intolerance among a small group who, because of the way the Green Party is structured.

"Though there may be 50 to 60,000 members as a smaller group, as only 200 can make changes to policy and obtain seats on the most important, committees.

"It wasn't known how many gay people were on the landing transports. But of course we have to. This is part of the problem.

"Of course, we all know about Stonewall, which was set up in the days when to be gay was illegal, and it pushed the issue that it should be made legal

"It really should have closed down because it had achieved its aims, but it didn't."

Speaking to The Telegraph, Walker elaborated on his views about trans individuals in sports.

He stated: "I also said that there are men who call themselves women and take part in sports knowing they can win things they wouldn't as men."

He further discussed his concerns about children and internet influence, suggesting some young people become "brainwashed" after researching trans issues online.

Walker also made unsubstantiated claims about "sleepers" from other political parties being involved in trans activism.

Walker received his suspension in January 2024, but has since appealed to have his membership reinstated on freedom of speech grounds.

He insists he is not "transphobic" and claims two other Green Party members who monitored the group have also been suspended for allowing his comments.
