For years, many of us warned that the metropolitan elite’s obsession with diversity, equity and inclusion was anti-meritocratic and racist.
These concerns were dismissed as trivial, as waging culture wars and as being divisive.
We were told by the bureaucratic classes that diversity was conducive to better and more productive business, although no evidence was provided.
But we now have proof, not only that these policies are anti-meritocratic, racist and bad for business, but they have also put national security at risk.
An internal inquiry in the Royal Air Force revealed its diversity drive was unlawful. It found the initiative discriminated against white men following the former Chief of the Air Staff, Sir Mike Wigston’s push for a greater proportion of women to make up the Royal Air Force.
With the world now looking increasingly insecure and the prime minister promising to boost defence spending and commit troops to Ukraine, the Daily Mail has revealed that the Royal Air Force has been forced to beg previously overlooked candidates who lost out to not being diverse enough, to apply for roles within the force.
This came after reports that the RAF is suffering from a 30 per cent shortfall in pilots at the ranks of Flight Lieutenant and Squadron Leader.
Almost everywhere we look, we see this infection seeping through society. Last week, it was the sentencing council issuing two-tier guidelines that would favour ethnic and cultural minorities in the judicial system.
Last year we saw Next being successfully sued over a bogus gender discrimination claim.
All of this comes back to one of the most disastrous legacies of New Labour - the Equality Act.
The Act has codified into law woke ideology. It grants judges rather than markets the power to determine the value of labour, it has created a wasteful and racist DEI industry to emerge in the public and private sector and it has led to the rise of ESG - the very practice that led to the debanking of Nigel Farage.
The Equality Act needs to be repealed to restore common sense to our institutions, bringing to an end this nonsense and ensuring our armed forces are in a position to defend the realm.
