Nigel Farage has described Ukraine's acceptance of a US-proposed ceasefire with Russia as a "very, very good sign" as the conflict enters a potential new phase.

Speaking on GB News Nigel suggested the development could mark a turning point in the ongoing war.

Ukraine has agreed to accept a US proposal for an immediate 30-day ceasefire with Russia, according to a joint US-Ukraine statement.

The statement emphasised that the proposal is "subject to acceptance and concurrent implementation by the Russian Federation".

Speaking on GB News, Nigel Farage said: "I thought things might be heading in the right direction last night.

"Steve Witkoff, who was Trump's special envoy in the Middle East, mentioned that Zelensky had sent a letter to the president, apologising for the whole incident that happened in the Oval Office.

He added: "The pressure that was being put on Ukraine by America has eased to a very large extent, as the intelligence-sharing ban has been lifted and weapons shipments will be resumed.

"So, I guess the ball is now very much in the court of Putin and Russia."

As part of the agreement, the US will immediately lift its pause on intelligence sharing and security assistance for Ukraine.

"The proposed ceasefire will be extendable by mutual agreement of both parties, and is subject to acceptance and implementation by Russia," according to reports.

"I thought that on the eve of the talks that took place today in Saudi Arabia, this could potentially be a good sign. Well, actually, I think it’s a very, very good sign."

US officials have indicated they will now communicate directly with Russia regarding the proposal, emphasising that "Russian reciprocity is the key to achieving peace."

Beyond the ceasefire discussions, the US and Ukraine meeting in Saudi Arabia yielded additional agreements.

Ukraine talks

The two nations committed to "conclude as soon as possible a comprehensive agreement for developing Ukraine's critical mineral resources," according to the joint statement.

US national security adviser Mike Waltz said that Ukraine "very clearly" shares Donald Trump's vision for a peace deal, sharing his "determination to end the fighting".

Ukraine's agreement to the ceasefire came after more than seven hours of negotiations between top US and Ukraine diplomats in Saudi Arabia.
