A 14-year-old boy has been charged with attempted murder and possession of a bladed article after a 13-year-old girl was found stabbed near a major road.
The incident occurred on Friday morning near the A63 in Hessle, East Yorkshire, with the victim discovered by the roadside around 6.50 am.
She sustained serious injuries, including lacerations to her neck, abdomen, chest and back.
The girl was rushed to hospital, where she remains in a serious but stable condition.
Humberside Police initially arrested six teenagers in connection with the attack, which they confirmed was carried out by individuals known to the victim.
Following the discovery of the injured girl, Humberside Police conducted an area search which resulted in the arrest of the six teenagers in a nearby wooded area.
The group included four boys aged 14, 15, 16 and 17, and two girls aged 14 and 15.
Detective Superintendent Simon Vickers, leading the investigation, stated that extensive lines of enquiry were being conducted to understand the circumstances of the attack.

A large scene guard was initially in place around a wooded area on Ferriby High Road and the A63 where the girl was assisted by members of the public. These cordons have since been lifted.
The 14-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been charged with attempted murder and possession of a bladed article.
He has been remanded into custody and is set to appear at Hull Magistrates' Court on Monday 4 November.
Five other teenagers initially arrested have since been released from custody on police bail.
A spokesperson for Humberside Police confirmed the charges and court appearance, stating: "The 14-year-old boy has been charged with attempted murder and possession of a bladed article.
"He has been remanded into custody to appear at Hull Magistrates Court on Monday 4 November."
The victim remains in a serious but stable condition in hospital.
Detective Superintendent Simon Vickers expressed gratitude to the public, saying: "I would like to again thank members of the public who came to the girl's aid and also to those who have rang in so far and provided us with any information."
