Sir Rod Stewart caused a stir with a chaotic live TV appearance at Celtic Park ahead of the Scottish giants' Champions League clash against Bayern Munich.

The 80-year-old rocker made a surprise appearance on the CBS Sports broadcast before the match to discuss how he thought the team would play.

During his interview with goalkeeper-turned-pundit Peter Schmeichel, however, Stewart immediately admitted he'd already "had a couple" of drinks to get in the spirit.

The candid confession set the tone for the memorable pre-match interview that quickly captured viewers' attention and left them in hysterics.

Stewart kicked off his surprise appearance by jokingly telling the 60,000-strong crowd to "shut up" as they began singing during his interview.

When discussing Celtic's chances of a win, Stewart began with an unexpected expletive and said: "If we get lucky and don't make any c**k ups in the first couple of minutes, we're in with a good chance."

The legendary rocker immediately acknowledged his on-air slip, chuckling: "Did I say c*** ups?"

The comment prompted laughter from the pundits in the studio, including his longtime friend Jamie Carragher.

The hilarious interview took another unexpected turn when Stewart mistook former Manchester United goalkeeper Schmeichel for England legend Gordon Banks.

After being asked once again about Celtic's chances, Stewart proudly declared: "I'm proud to be interviewed by Gordon Banks!"

The mix-up sparked even more laughter from the broadcast team who were left unable to breathe at his innocent quip.

A self-aware Stewart then once again realised his mistake and noted: "You had better get me off the air. I'm embarrassing myself!"

The broadcast concluded with Stewart and Liverpool legend Carragher performing an impromptu duet of Maggie May.

Stewart's mishaps and their duet quickly sparked a mass of online attention, as one fan wrote on X: “Drunk Rod Stewart on the CBS broadcast this is the best sports coverage on earth."

Another viewer enthused: "A drunk Rod Stewart talking to the CBS crew about Celtic-Bayern. Inject this interview into my veins. So good."

One fan simply declared the interview as "ICONIC,” before another said: “This interview will go down in history! What a way to kick off the game! Come on Celtics!”
