Police are in attendance after a suspected high-speed car ramming attack in the German city of Mannheim.
A spokesman for the German police said there is a presence in the area around Wasserturm and Plankenkopf.
The public have been urged to avoid Mannheim city centre and to take a wide detour with "multiple" people believed to be injured on scene.
A woman wrote on X: "My daughter just wrote to me to say that a car drove into the city center of Mannheim and ran over several people. She is fine, but was very close by... no further information yet."
A spokesman for German Police said: "There is currently a police operation in Mannheim city center, in the area around Wasserturm/Plankenkopf.
"Police and rescue services are on their way. Further information is not yet available. In this context, there may be temporary traffic disruptions in the city Centre."
Local media reports a black SUV that drove at high speed from the parade ground towards the water tower into a crowd of people. The intensive care unit of the nearby university hospital has declared a disaster alert.
