Royal Mail and Sainsbury's have announced a long-term partnership to install parcel lockers at supermarkets across the UK.

Sainsbury's is the first supermarket chain to join Royal Mail's rapidly expanding network of parcel drop-off and collection points.

The collaboration aims to meet the growing demand for convenient parcel services, particularly for second-hand marketplace sellers.

The first lockers are already operational in six Sainsbury's stores across the country, including Clapham, Desborough, Kempshott, Low Hall, Kidderminster and Chislehurst.

Royal Mail plans rapid expansion over the coming months, with more lockers to be installed at additional Sainsbury's locations across the UK.

The smart lockers promise a "hassle-free" parcel drop-off service, with collection options coming soon.

They feature convenient label printing functionality, allowing customers to pay for postage online and print labels by scanning a QR code at the locker.

Royal Mail offers the most affordable rates in the market, with prices starting from just £1.55 for a small parcel that fits through a letterbox.

The partnership is part of Royal Mail's wider expansion of convenient parcel services across the UK.

The company now operates more than 1,500 lockers and has partnerships with 7,000 Collect+ stores nationwide.

Customers can also drop off smaller parcels in any postbox and use the Royal Mail app to request proof of postage.

Group Strategy and Transformation Director at Royal Mail, Jack Clarkson, commented: "Partnering with a retailer with the scale and popularity of Sainsbury's is great news for our customers and the UK public, who will now have even more ways to drop off and collect their parcels in convenient locations.

"Due to the relentless growth in online shopping and second-hand marketplaces, there is increased demand from our customers for more parcel drop-off and collection points.

"To meet our goal of making sending and receiving parcels as easy as possible, we must considerably expand our network. This is the start of an exciting partnership with Sainsbury’s that will help us to meet that goal at pace."
