A group of foolish Russian teachers have been deceived into wearing tinfoil hats to “protect from external enemies” by an exiled Belarusian blogger.
Vladislav Bokhan, who has expressed his views against the Kremlin in the past, planned the stunt to illustrate the brainwashing from Russian propaganda.
Bokhan sent letters to the teachers explaining how the tinfoil hats would “irradiate the Russian people physically and biologically” from Nato satellites.
One of the Russian teachers said: “Making tinfoil hats is not only an interesting and creative activity, but also an important patriotic act, symbolising the readiness to defend our homeland from external [Western] threats.
“Let our hats become a symbol of unity and resilience in the face of [foreign] challenges.”
Bokhan, a former history teacher, was shocked when his plan turned into reality.
He said: “I still can’t believe it happened. I am both delighted and shocked.”
His letters included a list of instructions on how to create the hats with the Russian flag visible.
Speaking about the stunt, Bokhan also said: “Italian philosopher, Umberto Eco, listed 14 common features of fascism.
"I want to highlight each of these through an action in Russian schools. In fact, I may not limit myself to schools and Russia.”
He added: “Every autocracy generates conspiracy theories. They help to unite society around the government as the sole guarantor of protection from an unseen but persuasive enemy.”
Bokhan has a track record of tricking Russian teachers, once fooling them to hold up signs saying, “One people, one nation, one leader”. A phrase which was used by Nazi Germany, referring to Adolf Hitler.
A Russian education ministry official did come out and defend the teacher’s patriotism to the Fatherland.
However, the official added: “It was disappointing that they could not distinguish a genuine [political] party initiative from an inappropriate joke.’
