Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been warned by a screenwriter that Netflix will not renew their contract but the Sussexes would receive more interest if they got divorced.
Marina Hyde suggested streaming platforms might maintain connections with the couple to "keep a vague hand in" should Meghan and Harry split up.
The journalist and screenwriter said on her podcast: "People are hanging around in case there's a divorce"
Hyde believes streamers would queue up to make a series about a potential Sussex divorce because it would be a ratings winner.
It comes after the Duchess of Sussex's recent show "With Love, Meghan" received poor reviews and viewing figures in a fresh setback for the couple.
Hyde said: "They [Netflix] are not going to renew. They might say we're continuing to develop projects with them.
"The reality is that a lot of people are hanging around in case there's a divorce.
"That might be why Netflix, or whoever it might be, who's got to deal with them, might keep a vague hand in."
Hyde believes the couple have already had their main television success with the Harry & Meghan documentary in 2022.
The couple's subsequent projects for Netflix were described as "flops" by the journalist.
During the podcast, co-host Richard Osman suggested Meghan should return to acting.
Osman said: "Meghan is an actress. Cast her in something. This is what I advise Meghan, take a job in something.
"You could pretty much name your price and project for the first thing you go back into acting for. It's what she does."
In December, Prince Harry challenged persistent online rumours about his marriage at a New York media summit.
The Duke of Sussex dismissed claims that he and Meghan are struggling.
He was responding to questions from Andrew Ross Sorkin about the public's fascination with their relationship.
LATEST ROYAL NEWS:
Sorkin said: "They're fascinated Meghan is in California right now, and you're here. There are articles left and right about: 'Why are you making, doing independent events? Why aren't you doing them together?"
Prince Harry replied: "Apparently we've bought or moved house 10, 12 times. We've apparently divorced maybe 10, 12 times as well. So it's just like, 'what?'.
"It's hard to keep up with, but that's why you just sort of ignore it. The people I feel most sorry about are the trolls.
"Their hopes are just built and built, and it's like, 'Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes', and then it doesn't happen. So I feel sorry for them. Genuinely, I do."
