Police have launched a probe into two “unexplained deaths” of a man and woman in a leafy Welsh village.

The two were discovered at a property located on a village high street in Hirwaun, south Wales.

Local officers at South Wales Police are now investigating the deaths, which are being treated as “unexplained”.

A spokeswoman confirmed that the bodies were first found at a location along the local street at around 5.45pm on Friday afternoon.

She added that a cordon was put in place with additional police officers in the area.

The next of kin have been informed.

"Local residents are thanked for their patience while officers carry out their investigations," she continued.

Emergency services were summoned to Kendon Court once a neighbour expressed concern on Friday afternoon.

Local residents claimed that the pair had not resided at the property for very long and it was believed that they had moved to the small village from another nearby town, Mountain Ash.

One neighbour told the Daily Mail: "The police and forensic officers in white suits were here all weekend - I think they took the bodies out in darkness, late on Friday night.

"Nobody here seems to know them, but everyone is in shock. This is a quiet village, nothing much happens here."
