Police have issued a statement after vandals desecrated graves at Connah's Quay Cemetery in Wales.

Families were left distraught after headstones were knocked over and damaged in the shocking incident in Flintshire.

Images shared on social media showed multiple headstones, crosses and flower pots toppled with memorial flowers strewn across the ground last month.

The vandalism prompted angry reactions from locals, expressing their outrage at the distressing act.

North Wales Police have since launched an investigation after the incident, which affected multiple graves at the Flintshire cemetery, while the community rallied together to support the impacted families.

The force has now announced that a fundraising effort was organised, culminating in a football match that successfully raised £3,192 to go towards those whose loved ones' graves were damaged.

A statement from North Wales Police Flintshire North read: "All funds raised will be directed to a designated person who will ensure the money is shared fairly among those impacted."

The police added: "The investigation into this incident is ongoing, and while I'm unable to provide specific details at this time, I want to assure you that all lines of inquiry are being thoroughly investigated.

Last month, a North Wales Police spokesman urged anyone affected to come forward.

"If you are the owner of a vehicle or a gravestone that was damaged over the weekend and are yet to report it to us, please contact 101 and quote reference number 25000125753," the statement said.

Police have assured the community that all lines of inquiry are being thoroughly pursued.

The investigation has remained active as authorities work to assess the incident and search for the perpetrators of the disrespectful act.
