A neighbour row has erupted after a homeowner shovelled snow from his driveway over a six-foot fence into his neighbour's garden.
The man, who needed to clear his driveway for work access, chose to throw the snow into the adjacent property rather than pile it on his own land.
The incident, which took place in New York, has led to heated complaints from the neighbours, who condemned his actions as "entitled" behaviour.
Despite facing criticism, the man and his wife maintain they see no issue with their approach, claiming the snow on their neighbours' grass "isn't hurting anyone".
The dispute escalated when the neighbours' landlord became involved, issuing a warning letter threatening police involvement.
The couple's property features a narrow 40ft driveway with a 6ft fence running along most of its length.
According to the wife's social media post, the first 15 feet of driveway has no fence, allowing snow to be shovelled into both yards.
For a 20ft middle section, they are bordered by their house on one side and the neighbour's fence on the other.
"We put the snow over the fence instead of walking 15ft to deposit a single shovel", the wife explained, noting their first snowfall of the year exceeded 15 inches.
LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:
The couple claim they have been following this practice since 2017 "with no issues with previous tenants".
The neighbours attempted to stop the man during the incident, shouting from their window, but he was wearing headphones and didn't hear them.
The following morning, a letter arrived from the neighbours' landlord, stating: "We were told by our young tenants that yesterday, you were shovelling and throwing snow from your property on our side... That's not cool and not neighbourly!"
The couple responded defensively, with the wife writing: "My husband is not rude and disrespectful and I resent the implication. He was listening to music and was being yelled at through a window."
She further argued that since the snow was placed on lawn rather than driveway, it shouldn't be considered problematic.
The couple turned to social media seeking public opinion on their actions, but faced widespread criticism.
"You're in the wrong. Yeah it's into a yard and not a driveway but you are still shovelling snow from your property into someone else's", one user responded.
Another commenter pointed out practical concerns: "Along the fence to our yard that you can't see is a bench my kids like to sit on in the winter, a compost bin that we use regularly, and lots of the kids toys I don't want buried."
"You can't shovel anything from your property onto someone else's, that just feels inherently wrong on the politeness scale", added a third user.
