GB News presenter Michelle Dewberry has strongly criticised a County Durham school's now-abandoned plans to turn off its heating for a day to teach students about climate change.
Wolsingham School had intended to hold a "Blue Nose Day" on Friday, encouraging pupils to wear extra layers whilst the heating remained off.
The event aimed to promote sustainability and reduce the school's carbon footprint. However, following concerns from parents, the secondary school cancelled the initiative.

Dewberry, speaking on GB News, expressed outrage at the proposal, calling it "lunacy" and a "weird form of grooming and indoctrination".
Wolsingham School, located in Bishop Auckland, had initially planned the "Blue Nose Day" for 18 October 2024. The school chose the date carefully, considering average temperatures and forecasts predicting around 15°C on the day.
Students were advised to wear additional layers under their uniforms, such as black v-neck jumpers or thermal undergarments. The school's climate action team, comprised of pupils, had been instrumental in organising the event.
The initiative was part of broader sustainability efforts at Wolsingham School, which had already implemented measures like installing filtered water coolers to reduce single-use plastic waste.
The school's plans faced significant backlash from parents, prompting a swift reversal. In a letter to families on Tuesday, Headteacher Nick Mitchingham announced the cancellation of "Blue Nose Day".
He stated: "After careful consideration and speaking to several parents regarding their concerns, the Blue Nose Day scheduled for Friday 18 October 2024 will now not go ahead as planned."
The school confirmed that heating would remain on as usual, and students would not need to wear extra layers.
The climate action team will now reschedule the event for the summer term of 2025, allowing more time for communication with parents about the initiative.
Michelle Dewberry, speaking on GB News, did not hold back in her criticism of the school's initial plan. She said: "I thought, 'what is this world coming to? What is going on in the schools of Britain where this kind of lunacy is even considered?'"
The presenter went on to describe the initiative as "a weird form of grooming and indoctrination to the weird ideologies that people seem to insist children should have forced upon them."
Dewberry concluded her remarks by stating, "I just think it's absurd."
