Hollywood legend Michael Douglas has issued a challenge to US President Donald Trump in a rare return to social media.
The 80-year-old actor posted a short Instagram video where he shared his thoughts on the state of the world.
“Hello friends, I haven't seen you in a long time,” Douglas opened the video, shot in a simple selfie style.
“I feel like a bear in hibernation, and I’ve have come out and it's like a new world out there,” he continued.
LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:
The actors tone quickly changed as he asked: “We’re allies with the Russians?!”
“I thought they've been trying to destroy us for the last 75 years!” he added incredulously.
The comment was a veiled reference to the Trump’s administration posture on international relations, particularly the US stance on the war in Ukraine.
Trump has pursued a tough stance on Ukraine in its fight against the invading Russia, pressuring Kyiv to pursue peace with Moscow.
The US briefly suspended military aid and intelligence sharing with Ukraine following the Oval Office fracas between Trump, Vice President JD Vance and Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky.
Aid has now been resumed after Ukraine agreed to a 30-day ceasefire, which Russia has yet to sign on to.
Former Tory government defence minister Tobias Ellwood appeared to be on a similar wavelength to Douglas.
Speaking to GB News, he argued Trump’s actions: “Can only support one person, one country, and that's Putin.”
“We're now seeing America side with Russia,” the former soldier and politician added.
Douglas spent the rest of his video talking about classic films like One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. However, fans in the comments were more keen to share their thoughts on his Trump’s swipe.
“I wish I was a bear and hibernating for the next 4 years. I’m afraid there won’t be a country left when I wake up with the worst president ever!” one wrote.
Another claimed: “You’re absolutely right! Trump is owned by Putin!”
Fans from Ukraine also made themselves known, with one saying: “We love you so much, from Ukraine. Thanks for Support.”
“Thanks for support, with love from Ukraine,” another added.
However, others were not impressed with the veteran actor’s stance.
“Really? Just stop,” one fumed simple.
Another pointed out: “Not allies (with Russia), but in negotiations to end the killing and bring peace!"
