Melania Trump has joined her husband Donald at his rally in New York in her first rally appearance on the former President’s campaign trail.
The former First Lady, who was introduced by Tesla and Space X CEO Elon Musk, came out to a standing ovation whilst Guns n’ Roses’ Paradise City played over the speakers at Madison Square Garden.
Her appearance came as a surprise as she was not on a pre-released list of speakers.
Whilst she has made a few appearances on the trail to support her husband, this is her first time speaking at a rally.
“Hello Madison Square Garden!” the former First Lady began, calling the city “the world's undisputed capital of industry, where titans of finance, fashion, and entertainment convene”.
She said the Big Apple was also “unforgiving”, trying to emphasise with the audience by stating that “our lives are complicated, even during the best of times.”
The former First Lady added: “And sadly, today, a declining quality of life, coupled with economic instability, makes it difficult for businesses and American ingenuity to blossom among determined citizens who race across city streets, and between offices, striving for success.”
Before introducing her husband, she told the crowd: “For generations, this town has produced America’s most fearless leaders whose mark changed the course of the world. New York City and America needs their magic back.”
TRUMP LATEST:
The former First Lady focused more on an overall vision for the country, rather than specifically discussing politics.
Her only mention of Trump’s presidential campaign came when she said: “Please welcome our next commander in chief, my husband, President Donald J Trump.”
She was absent at both US presidential debates and has missed most of his 2024 campaign events. Whilst she went to the Republican National Convention in July, she did not speak.
After introducing her husband, he walked onto the stage to his signature song “God Bless America”.
The pair hugged and exchanged kisses on the cheek, before Trump thanked the city of New York which he considers a “special place”. He was born in the Big Apple and also grew his business empire there.
Speaking for over an hour to a packed-out venue of 20,000 people, he discussed his tax policies and attacked the Democrats for the border crisis.
Other speakers at the rally included his running mate J.D. Vance, Dr. Phil McGraw and former Fox News host Tucker Carlson.
