Two of the most popular Chinese manufacturers have launched a new vehicle system that has been touted as being a "truly viable alternative" to an electric vehicle.
Omoda and Jaecoo has launched its innovative Super Hybrid System (SHS) in the UK market, marking a significant advancement in hybrid vehicle technology.
The system will debut in the new JAECOO 7 SHS model, which is now available for purchase across the country.
Setting new benchmarks in efficiency, the vehicle achieves an impressive WLTP fuel economy of 403 mpg, coupled with an exceptional range of 745 miles.

The SHS platform, developed by parent company Chery Group using third-generation hybrid technology, represents a fusion of traditional fuel with electric power.
The system delivers ultra-low carbon emissions of just 23 g/km, positioning it as a leader in its class.
One of the most innovative features of the SHS system is its ability to maintain battery charge, ensuring it "never drops to zero per cent".
The JAECOO 7 SHS represents a departure from traditional PHEV systems, with Omoda and Jaecoo describing it as a class-leading battery safety.
The vehicle's ultra-high thermal efficiency and extended range capabilities demonstrate the manufacturer's focus on practical, everyday usability.
This advanced hybrid technology delivers both performance and efficiency, setting new standards in the automotive sector.
Peter Matkin, chief engineer, JAECOO, and head of engineering for Chery Group, said: "The rapid growth of new energy vehicles is set to continue, and plug-in hybrids are a key part of this expansion around the world.
"The SHS enables an improved driving experience and better fuel economy, helped by a unique engineering solution.
"JAECOO engineers have worked tirelessly to fine-tune Chery [Group]’s CDM hybrid technology to offer a truly viable alternative to a pure electric vehicle."
The JAECOO 7 SHS powertrain features three distinct components, starting with a fifth-generation 1.5-litre TDGI petrol engine.
The engine delivers 143 bhp and 215 Nm of torque, while the 18.3 kW lithium iron phosphate battery pack enables an electric-only range of 56 miles.
The battery's triple-layer design maximises impact resistance, emphasising Omoda and Jaecoo's commitment to safety.
LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:
In November, it was announced that the Jaecoo 7 premium SUV would cost £29,435 for a petrol model of £35,065 for the SHS powertrain. UK deliveries are expected to start on January 31.
