The London Gay Men’s Chorus is set to perform for King Charles following his royal health scare.
Buckingham Palace has issued a new update after the monarch was forced to cancel public duties in Birmingham on Friday after suffering side effects of his cancer treatment.
In February 2024, the Palace confirmed the King, 76, was diagnosed with cancer, though they did not specify which type.
The public was also never informed of which type of treatment King Charles was undergoing.
In a fresh update on Monday afternoon, the Palace announced that the father-of-two will host a reception to celebrate music in communities at Windsor Castle on Thursday, April 3.
At Windsor Castle, the King, with the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, will host 350 guests, including leaders of community music groups and music-related projects, many of whom are volunteers.
London Gay Men’s Chorus will sing from the balcony at the start of the performance as guests arrive and take their seats.
The choir was founded in 1991 by a group of nine gay men.
London was in the midst of the AIDS crisis, and the men sang together to find a place of support, friendship and brotherhood.
The group now has over 300 members.
The evening will celebrate the vital role music plays in strengthening communities and the important work of those developing future musical leaders, such as choir and band directors, by providing the next generation with knowledge and experience.
His Majesty will join guests for a performance compèred by BBC Radio 3 presenter Katie Derham in the Waterloo Chamber.
LATEST ROYAL NEWS:
Musicians from The Royal College of Music, The Sing for Freedom Choir and artist YolanDa Brown will all perform.
After the performance, the Royal Party will meet performers and other guests during a reception in St George’s Hall.
Throughout the reception, the Songs for Ukraine Chorus will sing from the balcony and the London Vegetable Orchestra will circulate and perform for guests.
