Watch the moment Lee Anderson grilled Wes Streeting in the Commons about Labour’s new health minister, who has previously suggested people are free to identify as llamas.
The Reform UK MP asked the Labour frontbencher whether those who identify as the creature should be put in a straitjacket.
Laughter erupted in the Commons with even Streeting smiling as he delivered a response.
“The new health minister has stated that it’s ok for a human being to present as a llama”, said Anderson.
“What I want to know is, if I have a family member who presents as a llama and they become ill in the night, do they send for a doctor, a vet or a straitjacket?”
Streeting responded: “I can say to the honourable member that the minister believes in treating every human being with the respect they deserve.
LATEST DEVELOPMENTS
“Even the honourable gentleman.”
Anderson, who was sat next to fellow Reform MP Richard Tice, appeared less than impressed with the response given as he raised his arms in frustration.
Dalton’s past suggestions include the total scrapping of gendered bathrooms.
Downing Street has moved to distance the Prime Minister from the claims made by his newly appointed health minister after the emergence of 2016 social media posts.
In a now-deleted exchange, she suggested people identifying as a llama should be treated with "dignity and respect".
The Prime Minister's official spokesman addressed the posts, stating: "I can't speak to comments made by people prior to being in Government."
When questioned if her position reflected Government policy, he replied: "No, the position remains clear. The PM has been clear before that single sex spaces will and should be protected."
Dalton was appointed to the health and social care minister role following Andrew Gwynne's departure over derogatory WhatsApp messages.
Prior to her government position, she served as shadow women and equalities minister during Labour's time in opposition.
Dalton entered Parliament after winning the West Lancashire by-election in 2023, succeeding Rosie Cooper.
Labour dropped its pledge for gender self-identification without medical diagnosis that same year, saying medical diagnosis helped maintain confidence in the system.
