Police have confirmed that multiple illegal migrants have been detained after they escaped a lorry along the M20 on Wednesday morning.
A group of 11 suspected migrants was travelling in a lorry along the busy highway when the vehicle suddenly stopped at around 10am.
As a result of the chaos, a Peugeot crashed and was subsequently removed from the scene.
After the group was found along the hard shoulder, police placed the migrants in a Home Office immigration environment facility.
One witness described the incident as “complete chaos”, speaking to the Daily Mail.
They said: "I was driving and saw all these migrants running all over the place.
"It's a miracle they didn't die. How on earth did this happen? It was insane.
"Where did the lorry come from?"
LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:
Another individual commented: "They were risking their life in there.
"They could easily have been run over. God knows how it happened."
In response to the incident, a Kent police spokesperson said: "At around 10am on 14 November 2024, officers located 11 suspected migrants on the hard shoulder of the M20 near junction 4.
"They have all since been transferred to a Home Office immigration enforcement facility in Folkestone.
"It is reported the migrants had been travelling in a lorry and enquiries are ongoing to locate this vehicle."
This shocking incident has followed Keir Starmer once again declaring his Government would "smash the gangs" which engage in the "vile trade" of people smuggling.
However, since the start of 2024, it has been reported that as of November 11, 32,900 individuals had made the illegal crossing.
This has also marked the deadliest figure for migrants as more than 50 individuals are recorded to have died in an attempt to make the perilous journey.
