Keir Starmer has been branded a “warmonger” by Jorge Martin from the Revolutionary Communist Party during a lively debate on GB News.

It comes after Vladimir Putin issued a direct warning to the West over its continued support for Ukraine.

The Russian President took aim at Keir Starmer and Joe Biden for their decision to supply weapons to the war-stricken nation, hinting at a possible escalation should they continue doing so.

Speaking on GB News, Martin said Starmer is being “completely irresponsible” by continuing to send British missiles to Eastern Europe.

“I think military experts agree that the war in Ukraine is lost for the West”, he said.

“The use of these Stormshadow missiles into Russian territory will not change that. I think that the permission to use them is completely irresponsible.

“It’s just a provocation which might lead to Putin retaliating. I think this is completely scandalous. It has not been the subject of any public debate in Britain. We have not decided that we are going to go to a military conflict directly with Russia.

“It’s a complete waste of money. Each one of these missiles costs between £1-£2m. At the same time, we are cutting the winter fuel allowance to pensioners. It’s a complete scandal.

“It shows the warmongering character of this Government of Keir Starmer’s.”

Research Fellow at the York Institute Robert Jones argued there was no need for a parliamentary debate on Britain’s action in Ukraine due to the cross-party consensus on the matter.

“This is actually merely a continuation of British policy over the last three years. It’s one of the refreshing things in Westminster, the cross-party support between Conservatives and Labour that we must support Ukraine as much as we can”, he said.

“The fact is that is we’re not supporting Ukraine as much as we can, and we could be supporting them a lot more. We should be.”

He added that Britain should be helping to fund Ukraine’s defence against Russia’s “illegal war of occupation”.

Martin likened the war to the escalating situation in Israel, questioning why “we are actually supporting Israel military when Israel has just invaded a sovereign country called Lebanon and has bombed several others”.

Putin

He added: “It seems that what applies in one case doesn’t apply to the other. It’s a clear case of double standards.”

Jones said it’s a “completely false dichotomy” to relate the situation in Ukraine to Israel.

“Something my guest doesn’t really appreciate is, we live in a democracy”, he said.

“We voted for Labour and Labour campaigned on a manifesto pledge to continue supporting Ukraine.

“If you don’t like that, don’t vote for Labour.”

Martin said he didn’t vote for Labour as a Communist candidate was “luckily” standing in his constituency.

He added: “It’s not been discussed in Parliament. It’s not even been announced publicly that we are not in a state of open conflict with Russia.

“Everyone knew Putin said if these missiles, which need British personnel to be operated, are used in Russia, it will be considered that we are in a state of conflict with Russia.”
