Classic interior design is making a dramatic comeback in 2025, with experts suggesting it could add up to £115,000 to property values.

The timeless trend has seen an unprecedented surge in popularity, with searches for classic furniture soaring by 243 per cent compared to last year.

Industry professionals are noting a significant shift away from fleeting fads towards enduring elegance in home décor.

"Classic styles are like the little black dress of interior design - always chic, effortlessly versatile and forever in vogue," says Victoria Benini, interior expert at Harbour Lifestyle.

The revival has gained additional momentum in recent weeks, with an extra 50 per cent spike in classic furniture searches over the past month alone. The shift towards classic interiors reflects a growing emphasis on sustainability and longevity in home design.

"Homeowners are increasingly prioritising designs that combine beauty, longevity and durability," explained Victoria.

Luxury fashion and interior influencers are championing neutral palettes and countryside charm. The trend also embraces pre-loved treasures, proving that timeless interiors can be both sustainable and stylish.

This return to classic design principles marks a significant departure from fast-changing interior trends, offering homeowners a more enduring approach to home styling. Beyond aesthetic appeal, the classic interior trend offers significant financial benefits for homeowners.

Research indicates that incorporating classic design elements can increase property values by up to 86 per cent. A separate Zoopla study revealed that classic styling could add as much as £115,000 to a home's worth.

Victoria offered key insights for implementing the classic design trend effectively. When selecting materials, she emphasises the importance of natural woods like oak or walnut over MDF or glossy plastics.

"A beautifully crafted wooden dining table can become the heart of your home, and only gets better with age," she noted.

The 2025 interpretation of classic style embraces thoughtful contrasts rather than rigid matching.

"Don't be afraid to pair a modern velvet armchair with a vintage sideboard," she advised.

The expert emphasised that mixing contrasts adds depth to a room while maintaining a cohesive overall look.

The key lies in choosing pieces with intention, creating a balanced blend of old and new elements. For those starting their classic interior journey, the expert recommended focusing on foundational pieces first.

She explained: "To begin with, focus on foundational pieces like a solid wood sideboard or a well-made sofa. These are lifetime purchases that anchor your design, and can be accessorised to change their looks over time.

"Don't forget decorative finishing touches like artwork, vintage mirrors, and heirloom pieces make your space feel unique and inviting."

These carefully chosen elements help create a timeless yet personal aesthetic that endures.
