It is still unknown what caused the fire, but it has been reported that the fire broke out in an under-construction visitor attraction.
In December, Miral, the developer of the theme park, revealed plans for a 16,900-square-metre expansion to the attraction.
The expansion will feature 18 new rides and attractions, along with an additional 3.3km of slides.
The waterpark will boast the UAE’s tallest slide and will introduce the GCC's first waterpark ride integrated within a waterslide complex.
This is not the first time such an incident has occurred on Yas Island.
In July 2017, the Yas Viceroy hotel rooftop caught on fire.
Residents reported seeing large plumes of smoke rising from the building.
However, no injuries were reported and the fire was quickly extinguished, according to a spokeswoman.
