Reform UK spokesperson Ann Widdecombe has launched a scathing attack on Elon Musk, stating the tech billionaire "has no clue what he's talking about" following his criticism of party leader Nigel Farage.
Speaking to GB News, Widdecombe dismissed Musk as someone who "speaks first or tweets first and thinks afterwards".
Musk sparked a row with Reform UK after calling for Farage to step down as Reform UK leader on his social media platform, X.
Musk's post claimed: "The Reform Party needs a new leader. Farage doesn't have what it takes."
Speaking to GB News, Widdecombe threw her support behind Farage, claiming that Elon Musk is "interfering in things he knows nothing about".
In a robust defence of Farage's leadership, Widdecombe pointed to his significant political achievements.
"Farage single handedly and without even being in Parliament managed to get us out of the EU," she told GB News.
She highlighted Reform UK's current polling success, noting the party is "only a couple of percentage points behind the main parties."
"When he's done all of that, nobody can say that he hasn't got what it takes," Widdecombe added.
LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:
Widdecombe also criticised Musk's stance on activist Tommy Robinson, describing it as "positively ignorant."
"Reform is not somewhere where we want Tommy Robinson, and Nigel has taken exactly the right line on this," she stated firmly.
She dismissed Musk's further claims that Robinson is a political prisoner, asserting: "There is no way that Tommy Robinson is a political prisoner, he broke the law."
The Reform UK spokesperson emphasised that while politicians often get involved in other countries' affairs when sharing similar worldviews, "they do need to know what they're talking about".
Widdecombe suggested Farage would take a more diplomatic approach to the disagreement with Musk. "Nigel would never put it that bluntly, he will try to keep Elon on side," she explained.
She indicated Farage would attempt to maintain positive relationships with both Musk and former US President Donald Trump.
"I think Nigel will try to stay friends with both of them, but of course he has been remarkably loyal to Trump," Widdecombe said.
She added that while Farage would handle the situation diplomatically, she preferred to be more direct: "I'm putting it bluntly. The man has no clue what he's talking about."
