A Conservative councillor has lashed out after he was silenced during a council meeting for raising concerns about grooming gangs in 2022.

Liam Billington, a councillor for Stalybridge South and Shadow First Deputy for Finance and Growth at Tameside Council says he was then reported to the police after his tirade.

“You find yourself on the receiving end of a police summary”, GB News’s Martin Daubney stated, which Billington confirmed.

“I asked ‘why isn’t anyone talking about Tameside? The figures are there’. The council did a presentation which stated that in excess of 30 children every quarter are victims.

“By doing that tweet, the police were angered who said I should go and visit them at the station, for telling the truth.

“They said they were acting off an anonymous complaint, to this day I have no idea where that came from. It felt like the police were trying to intimidate.”

He went onto accuse the council of trying to “destroy his reputation” in a fiery attack.

A 2022 video shows Billington presenting statistics to council leaders in a speech that was halted by figures from the top brass.

He told councillors: “The figures I have quoted are from a Tameside Council presentation. Some of the members were there.

“It states on slide three, which I have already provided to the police, that in excess of 30 cases of child sexual exploitation take place in Tameside every quarter.

“That means 120 children each year are victims.”

As he proceeds to speak about Oldham and similar issues taking place there, a figure at the front of the room is seen talking him down in a moment branded “astonishing” by Martin Daubney.

Labour has come under fire after refusing to hold a public inquiry into historic sexual abuse by grooming gangs in Oldham.

The decision has sparked outrage, with tech billionaire Elon Musk leading criticism of the response.

Musk said on social media platform X that "so many people at all levels of power in the UK need to be in prison for this."

The controversy centres around Labour safeguarding minister Jess Phillips' decision to reject Oldham Council's calls for a government-led inquiry.

Musk specifically targeted Phillips, suggesting she "deserves to go to prison" over her comments that the investigation was "for Oldham council alone."

Recent data from the NSPCC reveals an 82 per cent increase in online grooming offences against young people over the past five years.

The issue has affected multiple cities across Britain, from Bristol to Glasgow, with particularly notable cases in Rotherham, Rochdale, and Telford.

In Telford alone, one in 126 Muslim men were prosecuted between 1997 and 2017, while in Rotherham the figure was one in 73.

The scandal dates back to the 1980s in Telford, where girls as young as 11 were targeted by grooming gangs.

Many perpetrators remain at large, with trial dates set far into the future.

GB News has approached Tameside Council for comment.
