News Girl, 11, grabbed by man and woman in attempted abduction as she was walking to school in broad daylight

An 11-year-old girl managed to escape after being grabbed by a man and woman in an attempted abduction whilst walking to school in Greater Manchester.

The incident occurred at around 8:30am yesterday, near the junction of Cutnook Lane and Silver Street in Irlam.



The schoolgirl was approached by the pair who tried to grab hold of her before she ran away to safety.

She later told an adult what had happened, prompting a police investigation.

Greater Manchester Police have confirmed they are treating the incident as an attempted abduction, with no arrests made so far.

Police said the male suspect is described as white, approximately 5ft 9in tall, with short dark hair and clean-shaven, wearing blue jeans and a black hoodie.

The female suspect is described as white and was wearing leggings and a black hoodie.

Police believe the suspects had been driving in the area in two vehicles - a black four-door car and a small white van.

The van was described as new-looking and had a sliding door. Investigators have not specified which suspect was driving which vehicle.

Detective Inspector Justin Bryant, from GMP's Salford district, said: "This is of course a concerning and stressing incident and I would like to reassure the community that we are doing all we can to investigate the circumstances."

Extra officers have been deployed to the area by Greater Manchester Police as enquiries continue.

DI Bryant added: "We are ensuring that the girl and the family are being kept up to date and supported at this time."



The force has launched a manhunt to trace the suspects, who quickly fled the scene after the incident.

Detectives are urging anyone who lives in the area to check their dashcam, CCTV or doorbell footage from around the time of the incident.

Anyone who witnessed suspicious activity is also asked to contact police. Information can be passed via 101 or through the Live Chat service at gmp.police.uk, quoting log 1205 of 14/01/25.
