A 10-year-old who was bitten by her family dog has died after sustaining "serious injuries".
North Yorkshire Police were called to the property in the town of Malton at around 4.15pm on Friday.
The young girl died inside the family's home following the incident.
Officers said that medical professionals and a member of the public came to the family's aid.
Prior to the arrival of the police, the dog was secured inside a car by a family member.
When officers arrived, it was seized and taken to a kennel where it currently remains.

The breed of the dog has not yet been reported and police have asked the public not to speculate.
A spokesperson said: "The dog is being assessed as part of the investigation.
"Our thoughts remain with the girl's family and friends at this very distressing time.
"Officers are supporting the family while enquiries continue.
"We also urge people not to speculate about the incident, respect the family's privacy and allow them to grieve in peace.
"We will provide more information when we are able to."
