Watch the moment a furious row broke out on GB News over Reform UK MP Rupert Lowe’s suggestion that Donald Trump has bigger fish to fry than Ukraine’s war with Russia.

Speaking on the People’s Channel, Lowe argued with Labour MP Barry Gardiner about President Trump’s hostility towards Volodymyr Zelensky, saying Britain should be supporting him in his efforts to secure a peace deal.

Gardiner said anybody siding with Trump currently is turning their back on Ukraine and Zelensky after the US President’s angry confrontation with his Ukrainian counterpart on Friday.

The pair agreed on the need for a peace deal, but differed on how it should look with Lowe demanding a speedy resolution while Gardiner argued a ‘lasting’ deal is currently not on the table, and Britain should continue pumping money into Ukraine until it happens.

Gardiner said: “If you are siding with Trump, you are against Zelensky, as things stand.

“Trump is talking against Zelensky. Who benefits from that? Putin. Trump is trying to get the maximum mineral reserves for America but he has to play both sides in this deal because he knows Russia is currently occupying the eastern side of Ukraine, where many of those minerals are.

“He wants the minerals from Russia and he wants the minerals from Zelensky, so he is walking that tightrope, but at the moment, he is against Zelensky.

“What happens with Russia once those minerals are out? Russia never sticks to the treaties it signs. That’s what happened in Minsk, that’s what happened in Bucharest.

“We need to know that ultimately, Europe will be there, coming strong and paying more for its defence and making sure it’s solid behind Ukraine. We want to know that, as a backstop, America will be there.”

Rupert Lowe said Britain is not in a strong enough position economically to continue supporting Ukraine forever, and Europe must step up.

“We have not got a vibrant economy. We have Labour doing everything in its power to destroy the private sector”, he said.

“Do you think Russia has?”, Gardiner hit back. “Russia’s economy in comparison with the coalition of the living, we are seven times the economy.”

“But we don’t have any arms, Barry”, said Lowe. “Can I remind you that in 1940, two-thirds of the House of Commons supported surrendering to Germany.

“When you try to get rude consensus, it’s often wrong. We have to look at America’s position and respect America.

Donald Trump, Zelensky

“If people are sensible, they will support what America is trying to achieve. The major geopolitical risks are predominantly from China.

“War in Europe, as far as they’re concerned, is a sideshow. That is my opinion. I am siding with peace.”

“I’m sorry, you’re not”, Gardiner said in response.

“We need a sensible peace deal”, Lowe continued. “Quite enough people have died in Ukraine.

“At the end of the day, what Trump is trying to do is engineer a peace deal.”

Gardiner disagreed, accusing the US President of merely attempting to put forward unsustainable terms so he can extract minerals from Ukraine before “walking away”.

Lowe continued by hitting out at the Labour Government, saying British people are being “taxed to oblivion” while money is being pumped into Ukraine.

“Why are you turning against British people? It’s a joke”, he said.

“Do you want to see this country increase military spending? Where do you think the money comes from?”, Gardiner said.

“You’re changing the subject yet again.”
