Elon Musk has taken up residence in a cottage on Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate, placing himself just a few hundred yards from the President-elect's home, reports have claimed.

The soon-to-be 47th President has been boasting about having the world's richest man as his tenant at the Banyan cottage on his Palm Beach complex, according to The New York Times.

The tech mogul has been spotted dropping in on dinners hosted by the President-elect - in whose administration he's set to play a key role.

For now, the rental fee for the cottage remains undisclosed, though reports suggest it has previously commanded at least £2,000 per night.

Trump and Musk

Musk invested heavily in Trump's campaign over 2024, contributing more than £250million whilst wielding his social media platform X to help secure voters.

The X owner has been rewarded with an advisory role in the new administration - heading up the "Department of Government Efficiency" (Doge) alongside Trump's ex-Republican primary rival Vivek Ramaswamy.

Musk has become deeply embedded in Trump's inner circle, attending personal meetings at the Mar-a-Lago teahouse and joining calls with world leaders, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The tech mogul has reportedly spent hours in the president-elect's private office.

Staff from Musk's various companies have also been integral to the transition, helping vet candidates for senior administrative positions at team Trump's West Palm Beach headquarters.

Musk reportedly moved into the cottage around election day, when he was seen watching the state-by-state results flood in alongside Trump's family.

He has been accompanied by two of his children, their nannies and Shivon Zilis, a mother of his children who worked at his brain implant company Neuralink.

Trump recently reached out to Musk on Truth Social, writing: "Where are you? When are you coming to the 'Center of the Universe,' Mar-a-Lago... New Year's Eve is going to be AMAZING!!!"

Mar-a-Lago

As co-chairman of the new Department of Government Efficiency, Musk has proposed firing hundreds of thousands of civil servants and closing entire agencies to reduce federal spending.

His plans have garnered unexpected support from big names in the Democratic Party, including senators Bernie Sanders and John Fetterman.

Senator Fetterman praised Musk for having "made our economy and our nation better", to which Musk responded it was "hard not to like" him.

New data shows Musk's media influence exceeds that of his tech rivals, with articles about him generating almost triple the traffic of the next nine most-read-about chief executives combined.

But the billionaire has clashed with leaders across the Atlantic - most recently, he laid into Sir Keir Starmer as he warned that "very few" businesses would invest in Britain his leadership.

Meanwhile, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz used his New Year's Eve address to criticise Musk for calling the country's leader an "anti-democratic tyrant".
