Elon Musk has responded to protests taking place across the world targeting the billionaire for his recent political activity, with campaigners attacking Tesla showrooms.

Activists have launched a "Tesla Takedown" campaign, which aims to protest Elon Musk's involvement with President Donald Trump and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which is aiming to cut fiscal waste across the US Government.

While many of the protests against the billionaire have been peaceful, some incidents have been met with condemnation from the businessman and emergency services.

In one case, a lot in Seattle saw four Cybertrucks set alight, although the Seattle Fire Department has yet to confirm whether foul play was suspected as the cause of the fire.

Writing on X, formerly known as Twitter, Tesla founder and CEO Elon Musk reacted to a video of the Washington-based storage area which had seen four Cybertrucks targeted.

The five-minute clip shows firefighters tackling flames coming from a Cybertruck, prompting Musk to post: "This is crazy."

Pictures of the Cybrtrucks show badly damaged models, with some suffering minor cosmetic damage and others being completely destroyed.

Protestors also took aim at a Tesla showroom in New York City, in which they chanted "we need clean air, not another billionaire", and resulted in several being arrested at the scene.

Carolanne Fry, 38, is one of the organisers of the Tesla Takedown and called for more protests to "make Tesla a toxic brand" and attack Elon Musk from "every economic angle".

Videos circulating over the weekend also showed members of the New York Police Department standing around a Tesla Cybertruck during a march for International Women's Day.

Tesla Superchargers have been targeted in the United States, with Littleton Fire Department in Massachusetts reporting "suspicious" activity before the chargers were engulfed in flames.

Dozens of activists also occupied a showroom in Portugal in response to Musk's support for far-right parties across Europe, with the right-wing Chega party expected to make significant gains in the next Portuguese election.

One campaigner, Nuno Raimundo, said it was time for "people around the world to stand up" and counter the rise of Musk's political influence and President Donald Trump's leadership.

The 54-year-old doctor warned: "Otherwise, history will return to the 1930s in Europe. (Musk) may not be able to have enough influence in the next election in Portugal but with the amount of money he has, step by step, he can do that," Reuters reported.

Earlier this month, a French anarchist group claimed responsibility for an attack near the city of Toulouse in which 12 vehicles were torched.

The Anti-Authoritarian Information Toulouse and Surrounding Areas (IAATA) anarchist group said it had targeted a Tesla dealership because of Elon Musk's recent political comments.

In a manifesto posted to the IAATA website, it highlighted "transphobic" comments, adding that it was targeting "techno-fascists".

While the dealership building was not impacted by the attack, French newspaper La Depeche estimated that the damage was worth €700,000 (£580,000).
