Writing on social media site X, formerly known as Twitter, Elon Musk described the Las Vegas attack as "terrorism", as well as blaming the "woke mind parasite and the humans it controls".

Similar attacks have been seen across the United States, with protesters criticising Musk's involvement with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which has cut funding from humanitarian programmes and veterans affairs.

Commenting on the attacks, US Attorney General Pam Bondi took aim at protesters looking to use Molotov cocktails, saying: "If you’re going to touch a Tesla, go to a dealership, do anything, you better watch out because we’re going to come after you."

Speaking to Sean Hannity on Fox News, Musk said it was "shocking" that there was so much hatred and violence from the left wing of politics.

He noted that he used to believe that the Democrats had empathy, but now they were "burning down cars, firebombing dealerships, firing bullets into dealerships, smashing up Teslas".

Musk said: "Tesla is a peaceful company, we've never done anything awful. I've never done anything awful, I've always done productive things. I think we just have a deranged, there's some kind of mental illness thing going on here.

"It just doesn't make any sense. And I think there are larger forces at work as well. Who's funding it? Who's coordinating it? This is crazy, I've never seen anything like this."

In Belfast, around 20 vehicles were damaged at a Tesla dealership, with police reporting that most of the EVs had their wing mirrors knocked off, while others had windows smashed.

It comes after the group protested outside of Tesla's West London showroom with signs like "Honk if you hate Elon", "Stop, dump, deport Musk" and "Enough fascist nonsense".

Elon's father Errol Musk appeared on The Andrew Eborn Show to hit back at critics who were targeting the share value of Tesla, adding that all stocks were falling.

He also said that Elon did not take the attacks on Tesla personally, saying that the only thing that mattered was "being mattered".
