Britons have been trying to get in contact with Elon Musk to help them "regain their freedom of speech" after Rachel Reeves's taxing budget last week, Errol Musk has claimed.

The billionaire's father told GB News that people have asked him to pass the message onto his son and fumed at the Labour Party for trying to "tax their way out of hard times".

Rachel Reeves delivered her budget last week, and increased taxes by £40 billion in a bid to boost public services and grow the economy.

Speaking to Ellie and Steven on Good Morning Britain, Errol said: "I have people from England who contact me and ask me, 'please, have Elon to help them to regain freedom of speech'.

"What's going on in England is not right. I mean, England is trying to tax itself out of hard times.

"You can't tax yourself out of hard times. It's like a lazy man living on his mother's savings. No you need to work.

"You need to cut your costs and work your way out of it. This Starmer guy doesn't seem to understand that."

The Labour Party have repeatedly blamed the tax rises on the previous government, coining the phrase £22 billion blackhole.

"Any responsible Chancellor would take action," she said. "That is why today, I am restoring stability to our public finances and rebuilding our public services."

Prime Minister Keir Starmer had said the budget would target "those with the broadest shoulders" to spare "working people."

Rachel Reeves

Reeves ruled out making more individuals pay basic and higher income tax rates after a freeze on the threshold for payments expires in 2028/29.

She also extended a freeze on fuel duty and cut a tax on draught beer in pubs, measures that could help reverse a fall in support for Starmer's fledgling government in opinion polls.

Reeves told: "This is not the sort of budget we would want to repeat, this is the budget that is needed to wipe the slate clean."

Musk has taken aim at the Labour Party increasingly recently and after the budget was announced, posted that the UK should "protect farmers."

Under the new measures, farms worth more than £1 million will become liable for the tax for the first time when their owner dies.

Farmers have accused the prime minister of betrayal after he previously vowed to protect them if Labour got into power.

Musk posted on X: "We should leave the farmers alone. We farmers immense gratitude for making the food on our tables!"
