The 78-year-old Republican confirmed he has known about their romance for some time.

Trump revealed that Woods had personally informed him about the relationship months before it became public.

"Tiger actually called me a few months ago," Trump said.

The former president mentioned he has recently spent time with the golf star.

"I played golf with him a couple of times over the past month, and he's a fantastic guy and a fantastic athlete, and he told me about it," Trump shared.

He recalled his response to Woods: "I said, 'Tiger, that's good. That's good.'"

Woods and Vanessa went public with their relationship on 23 March when the 49-year-old golfer shared photos of the couple on Instagram.

"Love is in the air and life is better with you by my side! We look forward to our journey through life together," Woods wrote in the caption.

He also requested privacy, adding: "At this time we would appreciate privacy for all those close to our hearts."

The 47-year-old Vanessa was pictured cosied up with Woods in the sunshine in the social media announcement.

During the press conference, Trump also spoke about Vanessa's previous marriage to his eldest son, Donald Trump Jr.
