Steve Bannon has offered a message of reassurance to Britons after it was revealed Labour staff are helping Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign in America.
Speaking to Steve Edginton on GBN America, the former White House chief strategist said Donald Trump isn’t concerned about election meddling by members of the incumbent British Government.
He said Trump values his ties to Britain and these are unlikely to waver in the face of opposition from across the pond.
“Clearly they’re [Labour staffers] very drawn to this type of politics. We had Nigel Farage in the 2016 campaign. I don’t really have a problem if someone internationally wants to come over”, he said.
“I think people ought to be open about that as long as people understand that these people are not US citizens and they support her polices on global economics or globalism.
“Nigel Farage is a kind of populist nationalist. He’s the hero of the Brexit movement, which is something the American right has touted for over a decade now as being kind of the precursor to a lot of President Trump’s policies.

He added: “We have a special relationship with the United Kingdom. We came through a very bloody 20th century as allies.
“At one time we called you our mother country, although we did fight a revolution to kind of break off at the beginning of the rise of the Empire.
“I think there’s a very deep bond of the American people and the British people. I’m sure President Trump won’t go after any one political party.
“He loves England and Scotland. He owns Turnberry.”
Labour have defended staff trekking across the pond to back the Democrats, with Keir Starmer saying it’s being done “in their spare time, as volunteers”.
Defence Secretary John Healey said staff were “there at their own expense, and if they’ve got accommodation out there, that will be also provided by volunteers.”
Labour MP Lucy Rigby spoke on GB News about staffers heading to the States, saying “these people are doing this as volunteers. It is as old as the hills.”
A Labour spokesman said: “Labour sends a delegation to the Democratic convention each time, and Conservatives are often present at the Republican convention.
“It is common practice for campaigners of all political persuasions from around the world to volunteer in US elections.
“Where Labour activists take part, they do so at their own expense and in their own time, in accordance with the laws and rules.”
