Carol Vorderman sparked quite a furious reaction from social media users on Wednesday morning as she took to X with her verdict on the US presidential election.

While an official verdict is yet to be reached, projections show Donald Trump is poised to regain the presidency after seeing off Kamala Harris in the race for the White House.

Votes are still being counted but at the time of writing, Trump is ahead in the popular and electoral vote, with the 78-year-old already declaring victory to crowds in Florida.

Vorderman is no stranger to sparking controversy with her political viewpoints, regularly attacking the Conservatives during the UK election race and often promoting left-leaning policies through her platforms.

Wednesday was no different as she launched a blistering attack on Republican Trump - despite millions backing the former President at the ballot box.

On X, Vorderman fumed: "On @CNN... Looks like Trump will win. God help America.

"And the UK too when he introduces tariffs against us very soon," she continued before she veered off to attack Brexiteers.

She added: "Right wingers.. Voted Brexit to cut back UK trading with the Euro market...& cheered on a man who'll cut back trade with USA...well done.

"But....the boats...or should I say the bait," she sarcastically signed off her first of several social media posts about the presidential election.

Soon after, she reposted a quote from former Countdown colleague Susie Dent who'd penned: "Word of the day is ‘recrudescence’ (17th century): the return of something terrible after a time of reprieve."

In a series of separate posts, Vorderman also bemoaned the hypothetical impact a Trump presidency could have on trading with the UK, claiming: "It's remarkable how right wing hatred of others is bigger than the damage they will do to their own."

But Vorderman's reaction wasn't unanimously shared by her followers on X, with several users slamming the 63-year-old's complaints.

"You back labour & look how that's turned out. Left wingers, absolute morons," one fan hit out before a second mocked: "And so the meltdown begins."

"You really have no idea what youre talking about Carol, its embarrassing," a third added with laughing emojis.

Elsewhere, a fourth hit out: "Carol - This historic Donald Trump win is a victory for democracy, a victory for common sense, a victory for peace and a victory for us here in the UK. Remember - Trump loves the UK, has golf courses here and has family heritage here. AMAZING RESULT."

However, some fans did jump to her defence, including one who argued: "Carol’s got a point—#Brexit supporters cheered for cutting EU ties, now they’ll get a taste of what isolation really means with #Trump’s tariffs. Great job, everyone. #BrexitFail #Election2024." (sic)

Vorderman's social media complaints came as Trump declared victory in the election prior to an official verdict, hailing it as a "magnificent victory for the American people".

Speaking to ecstatic supporters in Florida, the former president claimed he had won an "unprecedented and powerful mandate", telling the crowd: "I believe this was the greatest political movement of all time".

"We have a country that needs help very badly," the Republican continued before he vowed to "make America great again" by promising to seal borders and allow people to enter legally. Trump's speech came as he edged closer to securing the 270 electoral college votes needed for victory.

Trump's campaign secured pivotal wins in key swing states, including Georgia, Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Wisconsin. At the time of his speech, he held 266 electoral college votes to Democratic rival Kamala Harris's 214, according to projections.

Harris did not address her supporters gathered at Howard University. Her campaign co-chair, Cedric Richmond, told the crowd: "We will continue overnight to fight to make sure every vote is counted".

Trump also hailed Republican victories in the Senate, saying the country had given the party "an unprecedented and powerful mandate".

Trump promised to "help our country heal" and usher in a "golden age of America". He vowed to fix borders and address critical issues facing the nation.

His running mate, JD Vance, described Trump's campaign as "the greatest political comeback" in American history. Vance thanked Trump, saying: "I appreciate you allowing me to join you on this incredible journey".

At 78, Trump will be the oldest president ever elected. He would also be the first defeated president in 132 years to win another term in the White House.

Trump praised his wife Melania, noting her bestselling book, and thanked his family for their support.
