Britain will maintain its unwavering support for Ukraine, cabinet minister Bridget Phillipson declared after the United States shifts its policy on military aid.
Speaking to GB News, Phillipson emphasised that the UK's position remains "steadfast behind the Ukrainian people, behind the Ukrainian government".
Her comments come as US President Joe Biden authorised Ukraine to use long-range American missiles for strikes within Russian territory, a move that has sparked fierce criticism from Moscow.
The Education Secretary explained that British support for Ukraine has enjoyed cross-party backing in Parliament, demonstrating the nation's unified stance against Russian aggression.
She told GB News: "In terms of the British government's position, we stand steadfast behind the Ukrainian people, behind the Ukrainian government.
"That was the case under the last Conservative government and there was cross-party support in the face of Russian aggression.

"For the Ukrainian people, we continue to maintain that position. As we enter almost the 1,000th day of the conflict, I think it really brings into sharp focus the sacrifices of the Ukrainian people.
"The Prime Minister and the Defence Secretary, from our point of view, will always continue to keep under review what is necessary by way of military aid for the Ukrainian people.
"We'll continue to make sure that Ukrainian people have what they need in standing up to Russian aggression. That has been our long-standing position that we will continue, because this is about European security and democracy in the face of this illegal war."
President Biden's decision to allow Ukraine to strike deep within Russian territory with US-supplied missiles has prompted stark warnings from Moscow.
Russian MP Maria Butina claimed the move risks "World War Three", suggesting the Biden administration is trying to "escalate the situation to the maximum" whilst still in power.
The decision follows months of Ukrainian requests to use US weapons for long-range strikes into Russian territory.
Phillipson noted that Prime Minister Keir Starmer is attending the G20, where he "will maintain our position of resolute support for the Ukrainian people".
She said: “The Prime Minister is today travelling to the G20 where he will maintain our position of resolute support for the Ukrainian people.
“But I'm the Education Secretary in the government. I'm not the Prime Minister or the Defence Secretary, so there are limits to what I can set out to you today as policy changes.
“I'm sure that that will be if policy were to change, and when policy changes, it's for those individuals to set out our position as a government. I'm sure you can appreciate that.”
