Armed police have swarmed Plymouth searching for a suspect after a serious assault left a victim in hospital.
Devon & Cornwall police said that officers rushed to the scene at 8.55pm on Wednesday after a person was found “seriously injured” in the street.
The individual was treated in the West Hoe area by paramedics before being taken to Derriford Hospital, where they are receiving further treatment.
The road has since been closed and a police cordon remains in place between West Hoe Road and Great Western Road.
Officers have remained at the scene as they search for the male suspect and have warned the public to stay away from the area.
Detective Chief Inspector Dave Pebworth said: “We have a large police presence in the area and enquiries are ongoing to locate and arrest the suspect.
“We believe this is an isolated incident and there is no immediate threat to the wider public.
“We would ask members of the public to please stay away from the West Hoe area of the city while we continue our investigation.”
LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:
The two people were believed to be known to each other.
Forensic officers have been working through the night assessing evidence such as blood splatters, whilst armed police have also been pictured searching a flat within the cordon.
One eyewitness told the MailOnline: “The scene is not looking very good.
“I arrived at quarter past nine. When I arrived on the scene the incident was in its early stages and armed police had been deployed
“Then 15 minutes later a police area response team had arrived.”
Another witness reportedly said: “I've seen someone being given CPR. It feels like every police officer on duty tonight in Plymouth is here.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact police by telephone on 101, quoting log number 756 of 22/01/25.
