Donald Trump will “despise” Sir Keir Starmer because he views him as “weak”, according to political commentator Carole Malone.

Starmer congratulated the 78-year-old after he romped to victory in the US election, but he and his Labour Party colleagues have not always been receptive to the Republican.

Their words are coming back to haunt them with many questioning how the Labour Government can work with a man subject to a series of jibes by senior party figures like Starmer in the past.

Speaking on GB News, Malone said past comments won’t be the sole reason why Trump will disapprove of those leading the British Government.

“I think Trump will despise Starmer”, she said.

“Trump despises weakness and he will see Keir Starmer as being a weak person.

“Presidents don’t forget. Remember Bill Clinton when he never forgave the Tories for looking into his cannabis past in Oxford. They don’t forget.

“He might say to him across the table, ‘we’re friends’, but I don’t believe him.”

Bev Turner said Elon Musk is “in Trump’s ear”, and Keir Starmer has done little to endear himself to the tech mogul.

Despite Malone’s assertions, Starmer has congratulated Trump on his victory.

He met the 78-year-old for the first time in September at his New York base - Trump Tower.

A UK Government source said the pair had “discussed the longstanding friendship between the UK and the US and the importance of continuing to develop the strong and enduring partnership between our two countries”.

Speaking ahead of their meeting, Trump had praise for Starmer, saying “he’s very popular”.

Trump came out on top in the US election with both the Electoral College and popular vote going his way.
